Call us at 07711 817223
We will initially see you for an assessment session where we can begin to explore the reasons you are thinking of coming into psychotherapy. The main aim of this session is for us to gain a shared understanding of ‘what is really the matter.’ What this means is that we will begin to explore the meaning of your symptoms and problems at a deeper, unconscious, level. This shared understanding will provide the focus for the therapy.
During this session we will spend some time beginning to explore your past and present experiences. You will have the opportunity to think about what you would like to get out of the therapy as well as to ask any questions about the type of psychotherapy we offer. You may also want to ask questions about alternative therapies that are available and where you can find more information about them. It may be that we will be able to make a decision about working together at the first meeting or we may meet for another one or two sessions before we can make that decision. If we feel that it would be useful to work together then we will contract to meet either once or twice a week. If we decide that psychoanalytic therapy is not the most suitable therapy or that we are not the best therapist for you then we may be able to suggest alternative therapies you can explore or refer you on to a colleague.
